At last!  Cork Wine bar of Downtown Houston presents:  James Perez' Seven Deadly Sins completed exhibition!  The show features all seven large scale original works, and will be formally presented in the ambient lighting of Cork Wine Bar at 8:00 pm on Thursday, July 22.   If you were shocked by the 7-foot depiction of the Pope last year in Lust, wait until you see Jenna Jameson in Sloth, and Jean Benet Ramsey in Envy! The show is free to the public and spectators will not be disappointed by the art, conversation, or fabulous wine list at this beautiful new Downtown hot spot.

For those that can't wait, a visit to Cork earns you a sneak peek starting today.  The show will be featured through August, but come on the 22nd for the full regalia.  Sign my GUESTBOOK if you would like to join the mailing list.

The studio has been busy the last few months but the wait is almost over.  All 7 major works in the Seven Deadly Sins series are nearing completion and will be shown for the first time as a complete series.  Gluttony, Lust, Envy, and Greed will now be shown with never-before seen Pride, Envy, and Sloth.  The seven large scale originals are mixed media on canvas, incorporating oils, glitter, jewels, money, gold leaf, plants, and poly-eurethane detils.  These images express the relationship between the practice of idolatry (whether religious or otherwise) and the sins they portray.  They show the worst of what idolatry does to humanity.  Date and location pending.  Join my guest list for a Save the Date.

Until then, preview the first 5 of the 7 in the Gallery.  Comments of any kind welcome.

Deans Credit Clothing Presents The Sinful Seven: Part I

James Perez will be showing Part I of his new series on the Seven Deadly Sins.  The show will feature the first two pieces in this new major body of work.  Gluttony depicts the Virgin Mary as the seven-armed Hindu Goddess of Death, Kali-Ma, and Lust depicts reigning Pope Benedict seated with an altar boy.  The Last Supper and select pieces from his later series will also be on display.

A performance art piece consisting of seven women body-painted and costumed as the Sins will accompany the show on opening night.  The women will put on a fashion-show themed dramatic performance in character, and will interact with the crowd thorughout the evening.  Candied apples will be served.

The event is free to the public and the exhibit will remain on display at Deans Credit Clothing (Fairview) through August 31, 2009.
